David Signs with Star-Farm Nashville

Setting the stage for his sophomore CD release anticipated in early November, Highway South Records (Detroit, MI) national recording artist David Shelby is pleased to announce the addition of Star Farm Nashville to his team of Music Row industry professionals to reinforce his foothold as a major indie. Star Farm will oversee the radio promotion campaign for Shelby’s forthcoming single, the title track, from his new EP entitled OH YEAH.**
“It’s important to align with a team of professionals who not only have a strong passion for what they do, paralleled with a solid work ethic, but who believe in your music,” stated Shelby. “The Star Farm team has a proven track record and is confident in my work. I have great hope in what we can accomplish together.”

The relationship is a new endeavor for both parties. Co-owners Michael Powers and Matt Corbin established Star Farm Nashville and opened the doors just a few months ago.  Powers and Corbin’s tenure at Bigger Picture Group signatured their career success (overseeing single releases campaigns for Zac Brown Band, Gloriana, Craig Campbell and more).

A nod to his Detroit roots, Shelby’s new single (“Oh Yeah”/written by Jeffrey East and John Ramey) is loaded with groove and drenched in “Twittyesque” undertones.  The highly anticipated EP, OH YEAH, was co-produced by Russ Zavitson and Music Brothers Production [Teddy Gentry (of the hit country music group Alabama) and Charles English] and is set for an November 4, 2014 release date.  The single is scheduled to hit radio in early 2015.

Highway South Records (Detroit, MI) is pleased to announce the forthcoming EP release from its flagship national recording artist, David Shelby.  Shelby, who has made great strides to carve his niche in the country music platform as a major indie contender, will introduce his sophomore recording project entitled OH YEAH.**  The six-song EP, co-produced by Russ Zavitson and Music Brothers Production [Teddy Gentry (of the country music super group Alabama) and Charles English], is set to be released November 4, 2014 and will be available via all major retail digital outlets.

Shelby is a performer “wired” for sound. The Detroit native’s musical talents are branded far and beyond his hometown roots and the current project is an absolute testament; OH YEAH highlights Shelby’s original groove-infused, gritty authenticity in his signature musicianship and storylines.
Shelby serves up a musical menu to cater to a “party-of-two” (with “Ride It Out”and “Feet”) or a full-house crowd (in the backwoods anthem, “Southern Drawl”).  The subtle, suggestive, and alluring sentiment of the title track, “Oh Yeah”(reminiscent of Conway Twitty’s “Tight Fittin’ Jeans”), rebelled by the undisguised, shameless blatancy of “Podunk” reveals Shelby’s ability to embrace his audience with varied emotions--contemplation, tenderness, revelry and hillbilly humor.

“Working alongside both Teddy Gentry and Russ Zavitson really brought out variations of who I am as a performer,” David Shelby introduced.  “It was an experience that pushed me to explore how diverse I could be, vocally and stylistically, while being consistent to who my fans know me to be.”

The well-versed EP is a composition of down-home country sound melded with country ruckus and drenched in Shelby’s trademark sound branded by the heart of America.

OH YEAH Track Listing
“Southern Drawl”
(Chip Davis/Damon Carl)
“Ride It Out”
(Jason Vanover)
 “Burn That Bridge”
(Charles English/Alan Miller)
(Tony Haselden/Walker Hayes)
 “Oh Yeah”
(Jeffery East/John Ramey)

Like a finely manufactured automobile, David Shelby “delivers” with lyrical precision, production polish and a classic talent to hold his own as an American-made independent. A musical protégé whose talents were recognized early on, Shelby was invited to form an entire horn section for the The Wolfman Jack Fabulous 50s Tour at age 17. The ace trumpeter toured internationally with award-winning recording artists such as The Imperials, Stevie Wonder and Davy Jones [The Monkees]; he opened for Styx and Foreigner, and has played before sold-out crowds at some of the world’s largest venues such as DTE Entergy Concert Venue and First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre (formerly The World Music Theatre) in Chicago.  Shelby has shared the stage with Hank Williams Jr., Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Uncle Kracker, Colt Ford, Jake Owen, Justin Moore, Lonestar, Craig Morgan and more among the ranks.

A scholar of music and a well-rounded composer/instrumentalist, David’s songs reflect his admiration for Nashville and the history of country music, the evolution of rock ‘n roll, and the rhythm and grooves that shout: “Detroit!” His latest recording project, OH YEAH, showcases Shelby’s ability to bring Detroit home in Nashville style as a seamless mix of both cultures.

Singer/songwriter, performer and country recording artist David Shelby (Highway South Records), who has garnered acclaim from country radio and its fans for his “Detroit-Meets-Nashville” music ability (as introduced via his 2013 national CD recording RUST BELT COWBOY), has entered endorsement relationships with Phaeton Trumpet (Barrington, IL) and TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik™ (South Windsor, CT).  The dual alliance is a result of Shelby’s attendance and performance at the 2014 Summer NAMM convention in Nashville this summer.  Shelby was presented with Phaeton Model: PHT FX-1100 and a Telefunken Model: M81 WH microphone.

Raised in a proud Polish-Russian family, David’s introduction to music was a cultural tradition and served as an integral part of his youth. Beginning with an accordion, advancing to the trumpet and ultimately graduating with guitar in hand, Shelby set himself apart as a scholar of music and a well-rounded instrumentalist with a mind “wired for sound.”  A natural-born musician and composer, ace trumpeter Shelby was recruited as a member of the touring families of international award-winning recording artists such as The Turtles, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Stevie Wonder and Davy Jones (The Monkees); he has opened for
Styx and Foreigner, and played before sold-out crowds at some of the world’s largest venues (including DTE Energy Concert Venue and First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre--formerly The World Music Theater--in Chicago).

“I don’t think the instrument has been prominent since Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring Of Fire,’ so we’re reintroducing the trumpet to country music—Detroit style,” Shelby said. “The Telefunken mic is innovative in ‘pronounced vocal sound; we are excited to put it to the test on the road this

David’s recordings clearly reflect his admiration for Nashville and the history of country music, the evolution of rock ‘n roll, and the rhythm and grooves that shout: “Detroit!”  His debut national recording project RUST BELT COWBOY (produced by Shelby, F.J. Turner/Tazmaraz Music and Chris Virzi) is a melded representation fueled by the gears and chains of Shelby’s innovative style.  He recently completed his sophomore recording project under the direction of both Teddy Gentry and Russ Zavitson (co-producers of Shelby’s new EP entitled OH YEAH scheduled to be released in November 2014).
